Back to School Picnic & Ice Cream Social

Bells and Whistles Fundraising

Description:   This committee is responsible for tracking the sales of the Paperless PTO Bells and Whistles fundraising program.
Box Tops
Chair:   Megan Stadalnik

Collecting box tops is a fun and easy way to raise money for our school. Gainfield earns 10 cents for every box top collected! ! Box Tops are available on over 330 General Mills products. Collections are taken in October, February & May of each school year; watch for notice of the collection deadline.  The class that collects the most Box Tops earns the Top Honor and is treated to a special celebration.

Bulletin Board - Birthday

Cultural Enrichment

The purpose of this PTO committee is to bring several performing artists or groups to the GES student body each year. Artists range from poets to dance troups to musicians.

Annual after school event for the children to promenade with their partners. We are currently looking for a Chairperson(s) for this commitee.


Dining Out Nights

The PTO organizes Dining Out Nights at local restaurants.  Gainfield familes and friends dine in or take out and a percentage of the proceeds go right to our PTO! 

Donut Dates
Chair:   4th grade class

"Donut Dates" is an annual, before school, breakfast event for Gainfield students and a special adult of the child's choice held in the Gainfield cafeteria. For a small fee, students and guests can choose from a buffet breakfast of muffins, bagels, fruit, danish, coffee, milk, orange juice, and of course, doughnuts. Students and their guests can have their picture taken in front of our "Donut Dates" backdrop. This event takes place in May, typically on the first Wednesday in May so guests can eat and then vote in the school referendum. 


Fifth Grade Party
Chair:   5th grade class

Fifth grade is a fun and exciting time for students as they prepare to embark on a new journey towards Middle School. To celebrate that and their memorable years at Gainfield school, a themed year end party is held for the 5th graders to enjoy. A group of volunteers/5th grade parents work together to create an impressive celebration for the graduating class.  


Fifth Grade Yearbook
Chair:   5th grade class

The Gainfield 5th Grade Yearbook is published at the end of the year and includes class pictures and many photographs commemorating the graduating class. Committee members take photographs of school events throughout the year. The committee will also collect photos taken at events during the 5th grade class' kindergarten through 4th grade years at Gainfield. Each 5th grade student will receive a yearbook and will be given an opportunity to collect autographs from fellow students. 


Holiday Fair

The media center will be transformed into a holiday shoppe, where both homemade craft items and commercial merchandise are available for purchase. The fair provides an opportunity for children to holiday shop for family members and have a real life math experience. Gifts range in price from 50¢ to $10.00. Volunteers are on hand to guide children in selecting their items. This is a fun and festive event for everyone!

Mother's Day Plant Sale
Chair:   Kindergarten class
This fun and exciting event serves two purposes.  First and foremost, it provides children a great opportunity to get gifts for mom without mom!  Children are very excited to go through the beautiful flowers and think about how much their mom/grandma/nana/aunt/sister/neighbor will like them. Secondly, it provide a chance to raise money for the GES PTO which provides resources for teachers and children at GES.   From hanging baskets to tomato plants to geranium plants, there will be many different plants to choose from at reasonable prices.  This is a great opportunity to volunteer.

Attends monthly Region 15 PTO Advisory Board meetings and updates the GES PTO.

Quassy Night
Chair:   2nd grade class

Quassy Night is held annually in June to coincide with the annual Region 15 Teacher Work Day.  This is an event for GES students, parents, friends, teachers & staff to enjoy a fun filled afternoon/evening at Quassy.  The park is not open to the public; this is a private event for GES. What a fun way to wrap up the school year!




Scholastic Book Fairs
Chair:   1st grade class

The PTO Scholastic Book Fairs are held in the Fall and the Spring in the Gainfield Media Center.  We need volunteers to help set up the book fair and to assist the days of the sale as both cashiers and shopping assistants for our students.  Students, parents, and staff are able to purchase new books, pencils, and novelty items. The book fair is a fundraiser, but we do not earn cash; we earn new books for our Media Center and our classrooms.  



Spirit Wear

The Spirit Wear Program is available so every student has an opportunity to share in Gainfield’s School Spirit. The PTO offers a variety of clothing and other “spirit” items (water bottles, car magnets, etc) for sale at Orientation, Open House and other events.  Spirit Wear is a fundraiser for the PTO; however, prices are kept reasonable so that all families have an opportunity to share their Gainfield Spirit.  


Square 1 Art - Annual Fall Fundraiser
Chair:   Linda Novellino

Each student creates original artwork which is submitted to the Square 1 Art Company.  A personalized order form, including a free page of stickers, is sent home in October showing the student's design with a catalog of items that can be purchased.  Items for sale include: mouse pad, coffee mug, apron, key chain, T-shirt, tote bag and many more!  Orders are placed via the paper order form or online and products will be delivered to Gainfield before the winter holiday season. This is a great opportunity for parents to do some holiday shopping and to support the Gainfield PTO.

Staff Appreciation Week
Chair:   All grade levels

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week 2018 will take place in early May.   Special surprises are planned for teachers and staff each day of the week and will include a special luncheon.  Room parents will be asked to coordinate certain aspects of the teacher surprises.  Volunteers will be needed to help plan the daily events and provide food, etc for the luncheon.  

STEM Enrichment Committee

This committee is responsible for planning at least one STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) assembly or other enrichment opportunity for the entire student body per year.

Stop & Shop A+ Rewards

Stop & Shop donates money to the GES PTO based opon the number of registered card numbers and product purchases during a specific time  period during the school year.  Contact: Mary Ellen Powers

Valentine's Day Carnation Sales

Parents are able to order carnations for their children and GES Staff and have them delivered to school the week of Valentine's Day.


Veterans Day Event Hospitality

The chairperson coordinates refreshments for the Veterans Day Event at Gainfield.  

Women In History
Chair:   5th grade class

5th grade students portray women throughout history that have made significant contributions to our world. The entire school takes turn watching these women "come to life" through monologues about each woman's accomplishments and contributions.
